Arkansas Game and Fish Commission celebrates 100 years

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The Arkansas State Game and Fish Commission is celebrating a big accomplishment in 2015.

The state agency turned 100 years old and is celebrating in a big way.

Events for people of all ages will be held at nature centers all over Arkansas on Saturday.

"It's been a long way and a long time coming to get to where we are at," said Shaun Merrell with the Arkansas Game and Fish. "We are just happy to be here and we want to celebrate that with everyone."

Some of the events going on include a fishing derby, arts and crafts and many prize drawings.

"We work for the public so we're here to celebrate with the public and it's because of the public that we exist and so along with the public we help to conserve wildlife in the state and that's who we work with and work for and that's why we want to celebrate," said Merrell.

The events at the Crowley's Ridge Nature Center in Jonesboro kick off at 9 a.m. and last until 4 p.m.
