Former "Tonight Show" Host Johnny Carson Dies

The man who reigned for 30 years as the king of late night TV has died.

Johnny Carson was 79 years old.

His nephew says he passed away peacefully surrounded by his family.

Carson took over as host of NBC's ''Tonight Show'' back in 1962, where he was introduced each night with the booming announcement from sidekick Ed Mcmahon: ``Heeeeere's Johnny''.

He continued that role until 1992, when he was replaced by Jay Leno.

Carson died from complications of emphysema.
