Sheriff's office searches for armed robbery suspect who hit clerk

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Authorities in Craighead County are searching for a masked man who stole money from a farm supply store and injured a clerk.

According to the Craighead County Sheriff's Office, the clerk called around 8:15 a.m. Friday to report a robbery at the Freeman Feed & Farm Supply Inc. on Craighead County Road 402.

The clerk told officers they were getting ready to open the store and laid money on the counter before putting it in the register.

A suspect soon entered the business wearing camouflage clothing, including a mask, and blue jeans along with gloves.

Then the suspect, according to the clerk, armed with a handgun (possibly a 9 millimeter) led them to the register.

When the suspect found the money on the counter they took it, hit the clerk in the back of the head with the gun and fled the business.

The clerk was taken by a private vehicle to be checked out and did receive a cut on their head, according to the sheriff's office.

A K-9 officer was brought in to try to trace the suspect, but was not successful. The clerk was not able to provide more detail about the suspect's description because they were covered.

If you have any information about this incident you are urged to call the Craighead County Sheriff's Office.
