American Red Cross looks for financial support

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

March is the month people typically associate with the Every Red Cent Counts Campaign to raise money for the American Red Cross.

Yet, the organization needs support all year long to keep programs going that help Northeast Arkansas.

"Seven deaths happen every day due to house fires in this country," said Pam Knapp-Carver, Executive Director of the American Red Cross serving Northeast Arkansas. "Our chapter responds to 1.5 fires per day out of the Northeast Arkansas office."

Knapp-Carver says the organization has installed 200 smoke alarms in Northeast Arkansas and is working to install more. The goal is to reduce the number of fire deaths by 25% in five years.

You can support the American Red Cross through several fund raising efforts this month.

The annual bucket brigade happens from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. at various sites throughout Region 8 on April 10. You can find out how to volunteer by calling 870-932-3212 or email pamela.knapp-carever@redcross.org.

The Rotary E-Club Jonesboro Metro plans to sell a limited number of boston butts and pork steaks for the American Red Cross.  Boston butts are $30 and pork steaks are $10. Call 870-932-3212 to order.
