BATESVILLE, AR (KAIT) - Law enforcement agencies in Independence County are working an accident on Highway 37 near the Black River, according to Glen Willis with the Independence County Office of Emergency Management.
According to Willis, one man was driving south on Highway 37 when he was swept away by high water. Willis said the driver appears to have driven past the barricade.
Willis said the driver is now being checked out by local emergency responders and is talking with Arkansas State Police.
Willis said a Cord firefighter spotted the man walking in the high water after he escaped from his vehicle.
According to the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department, Highway 37 near Cord was closed Saturday.
