Mayor Harold Perrin recently met with a group of supporters to talk about the possibilities of having a dog park here in Jonesboro. I have to say that is the one thing I've missed since moving to Region 8.
You see, the Conroys are dog people! And the thought of taking my Bluebelle and Louis to a dog park without having to drive to another state is thrilling, but paying for it will be a challenge.
The city's Parks Director Wixson Huffstetler told Region 8 News a Craighead Forest Park location would cost $75,000 to start, and that very little grant money was available for a dog park. Grants can come from a lot of places, but I think if a grant is federal money, we don't need it. It needs to be up to us, the public, to make this happen.
A 5k Dog Walk, private donors who are willing to step up, and maybe a yearly membership are only a few of the many options to raise funds for this worthwhile cause. I'm willing to do my part, and if you want a dog park in Region 8, then you have to be willing to do your part, too.
Building a dog park, bringing people together with man's best friend, and the public getting together to pay for it, will make this A Better Region 8.
