JACKSON COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - Heavy rain and melted snow caused severe flooding in parts of Region 8 over the past few days.
Parts of Highway 226 in Jackson County opened up on Monday after the high water forced the Arkansas Highway Department to shut the highway down on Friday.
The road closure was an inconvenience for travelers like Steve Bubanovich who said he just wanted to get home.
"We are just coming back from vacation. We've been on a cruise out of Galveston, Texas. Now we are on our way home and have run into this mess," Bubanovich said. "Considering we have work and school tomorrow, it's quite an inconvenience."
The high water is not expected to go away anytime soon. Many rivers in the area are not expected to crest until later in the week and most will be above flood stage.
