Jonesboro Lawmaker Files Prescription Drug Bill

LITTLE ROCK, AR - District 75 State Representative Dustin McDaniel of Jonesboro today filed a bill that would establish the "Arkansas Rx" program.  McDaniel says the proposal would allow the state to negotiate directly with pharmaceutical companies for rebates on prescription drugs and pass the savings directly on to seniors and lower income Arkansans.

"This is very ambitious, and I am very excited about all of the support the idea is getting," McDaniel said.

McDaniel, a first-term Democrat who serves on the House Public Health & Welfare Committee, made prescription drug costs a central part of his campaign last year.  "Since my election, I have been working with legislators in both parties in order to build support for the 'Arkansas Rx' program," McDaniel said.

The bill's list of sponsors includes several members of both parties.
