Police searching for cross-dressing robber

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Jonesboro police say a woman dressed as a man robbed a Dollar General store late Thursday night.

Employees of the store, located at 5431 Southwest Drive, told police the suspect entered about 10 minutes before closing time.

At first glance they thought the suspect was a man, but one of the cashiers said "she could tell that the person had hair glued to her face, a ponytail tucked under her hat and looked like a girl."

The suspect—who was wearing a camo jacket along with black hat, shoes and gloves—took a shopping cart and began moving around the store.

The suspect eventually came to the checkout and placed the items in the cart to check out, the initial incident report said.

When it came time to pay, the cashiers told police the suspect handed them a note demanding all the money and their cell phones.

When told the cashiers could not open the safe, the suspect reportedly took the store's phone and removed the batteries.

The suspect then gave the cashier a black bag to fill with money from the register.

According to the report, the suspect told the employees "not to do anything stupid" then showed them a black handgun tucked inside her waistband. The employees said the suspect did not pull the weapon out.

After getting the money the suspect took the bag and the items that had been placed in the cart then left the store.

The employees told police the suspect left in gray passenger car, traveling south on Southwest Drive.
