NEWPORT, AR (KAIT) - For volunteers interested in becoming a Court Appointed Special Advocate, there are new opportunities in Jackson County.
A CASA office is now open on Highway 367 in Newport. An open house and ribbon cutting was held Friday morning to inform the community about what CASA does.
CASA volunteers help to be the voice for children who are in the foster care system. Margaret Price, CASA volunteer coordinator for Jackson County, said CASA volunteers are sometimes the only constant in a child's life. The advocate helps the courts decide where the child should be placed.
Price said having the new space is vital to gaining more support. "We are in a building time here in Jackson County," Price said. "We do have some volunteers but we need many more, and this training space and office space is very valuable to us here."
Price said the space is donated and for a non-profit that is important. To volunteer or for more information, visit the new location in Newport at 2313 Hwy 367 or call 870-307-4614.
