JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Police questioned a man early Saturday morning for refusing to leave a restaurant, but then arrested him after finding he had stolen property.
A Jonesboro police officer was called to Airport Road Friday night because a woman said her purse was stolen out of her car while she was inside the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization.
The women left her car unlocked when she went inside the VFW at around 7 p.m. and noticed trash was scattered inside the car and that her purse was missing when she went to leave around 11:30 p.m.
At around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, another officer was called out to the Diamond Grill on Airport Road because an intoxicated man wouldn't leave after being asked by management.
The man was Robert Pierce.
According to the police report, Pierce was unsteady on his feet, spoke with slurred speech and smelled like alcohol.
Pierce gave officers consent to search him and they found a folding knife, two sets of brass knuckles and a small baggy of marijuana in his pants pockets.
They also found the driver's license, credit cards and the social security card that belonged to the women who reported her purse stolen two hours earlier.
Pierce was arrested and taken to the Craighead County Detention Center.
He is charged with felonies for breaking or entering a vehicle and theft of credit cards and misdemeanors for possession of marijuana and criminal use of prohibited weapons.
