CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO - A construction worker is injured after a falling concrete slab struck his lower body in an accident in southeast Missouri.
It happened about 5 p.m. yesterday at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. That's where Alberici Constructors of St. Louis is helping build a new parking garage.
Fire officials say an Alberici crane was moving a prefabricated concrete slab into place on the third floor when the crane tipped forward. The concrete slab dropped, striking the worker in the lower extremities.
The worker was taken to a hospital. Authorities, citing medical privacy restrictions, are not releasing the man's name or condition.
The garage will be inspected for structural damage.
