SIKESTON, MO (KAIT) -

A man from Stoddard County was found dead inside a vehicle as officers responded to what was initially a crash call.

Captain James McMillen with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety said officers responded Monday to the call around 7:40 a.m. near Missouri Highway HH and N. Ingram Road.

Officers found a vehicle had driven off Highway HH and was stuck in a field.

When officers got to the vehicle they discovered the driver, 36-year-old David Allen Leonard of Advance, was dead. He was the only person in the vehicle.

McMillen said there was no damage to the truck and there was no obvious evidence of trauma to Leonard.

Authorities believe Leonard suffered "some sort of medical event" which led to his death. Police think the issue was what led the man to drive off the road, ending up in the field.

Leonard's body was taken to a funeral home in Sikeston.
