JPD warns drivers to stay alert after Tuesday morning crash

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

An early morning wreck closed down a section of Highland Drive on Tuesday morning.

Shortly after 9 a.m. Jonesboro police officers were called to the scene of an accident on East Highland.

Justin Thompson, 22, of Jonesboro was traveling west when police say he veered off the road, collided with a utility pole and came to stop in a tree.

Cpl. Chris Perry with JPD stressed that motorists must be aware.

“In this case and all that, if you get a little bit tired pull over,” Cpl. Perry said. “Get out of your vehicle and walk around a little bit. Get something to drink, get some coffee and get something in your body. Just try to stay alert and be careful.”

Thompson was airlifted by Hospital Wing to The MED in Memphis.
