Tyronza Fire Department improves with help from grant

TYRONZA, AR -

The Tyronza Fire Department is continuing to make improvements.

The department received an Arkansas Rural Fire Protection Grant award in the amount of $6,382.50. The department purchased 20 new helmets with protective shields and is waiting for new lockers to arrive.

The lockers will help protect the new turnout gear the department was able to purchase earlier this year.

David Wood, Tyronza fire chief, said he's excited to help better the department. “As into the future, whether we are part-time, full-time, or volunteer department, like us, we all have to do the same job,” Wood said. “We have to go out here and save, protect, and serve.”

The city of Tyronza has been putting a lot of resources into bettering the department. Last month, the department lowered its ISO rating which helps homeowners save on insurance.

Wood said the community is in an ideal spot for growth and he hopes to continue improving for the sake of all Tyronza citizens.
