Humane Society accepting shoe donations to help animals

BATESVILLE, AR (KAIT) -

The Humane Society of Independence County is asking everyone to clean out their shoe collection for a good cause.

They are accepting new or gently warn shoes to donate to a nonprofit that refurbishes them.

By donating 2,500 pairs of shoes, the humane society can get $1,000 from the nonprofit.

Bev Finch, with the Humane Society of Independence County, said they are trying to raise money to help the public spay and neuter their animals.

With the money, they will be able to offer coupons or discounts to encourage people to spay and neuter Independence County pets.

Finch said spay and neutering animals helps their shelter to not get overcrowded.

“Hopefully by this successful fundraiser we can make more funding available for people to get their animals spayed and neutered,” Finch said. “It's a win-win situation for us in that regard. We won't have puppies and kittens down the way.”

Shoe donations can be dropped off at the Bargain Hound Boutique located at 228 Ramsey St. in Batesville, AR.

They've already received a number of shoe donations.

Any donations over the 2,500 pair goal will be donated, and the humane society will get additional money beyond the $1,000.
