Banks battle to give blood

BATESVILLE, AR (KAIT) -

Banks all over Batesville indulged in some healthy competition. It was all a part of giving back.

A Red Cross blood drive took place at the First Community Bank in Batesville, Friday. It was the 2nd annual Battle of the Banks.

Blood donors wrote down what bank they were giving for to help the bank gain bragging rights. Courtney Richardson, marketing coordinator for First Community Bank, said it's great to see the community come together.

“Especially with the Battle of the Banks, we come together, you know, for a friendly competition, but it's really truly just to spread the word that the Red Cross needs help,” Richardson said. “We feel really honored to help them with that.”

Last year, Citizens Bank won the competition. The winner of the 2015 Battle of the Banks Blood Drive, however, was First Community Bank.

Regardless of the winner, there was a total of 62 units of blood donated, and Richardson said they were thrilled to have such a strong turnout.
