JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Region 8 medical professionals spent their Monday at ASU to make sure they had the most up-to-date information on how to treat wounds.
Arkansas State University's College of Health Professions and St. Bernards Wound Healing teamed up to sponsor a Wound Care Symposium.
More than 300 people gathered in the Fowler Center to listen to experts discuss the latest developments in both technology and wound healing techniques.
Marty Algee is in charge of Wound Services with St. Bernards.
He spoke to a number of doctors and nurses in Region 8 who say there wasn't a focus on wound care when they were first trained.
"They say as they go through their training becoming nurses and physicians, we often times believe it or not, we get very little training in wound care specifically," Algee said. "Wound care was a topic that they identified as something that we want more training on."
