Earthquake hits parts of Region 8

STEELE, MO (KAIT) -

A 3.6 magnitude earthquake shook parts on Region 8 Wednesday night.

According to data from the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake happened at 10:51 p.m. and was centered near Steele, Missouri.

Several residents in Cooter, Missouri, which is about 6 miles away from Steele, said the earthquake spooked them.

“It felt like my whole house was rockin',” said Sandra Morris. “ It scared me and I didn't go to bed until almost 2.”

Morris said when earthquakes typically happen, they usually only feel small tremors. Nothing at all like what they experienced Wednesday night.

Other residents say they were awakened by the earthquake.

“It was pretty big,” said Reegan Bernard. “We checked on Facebook and it lit up Facebook pretty fast.”

I also spoke with residents in Steele and several told me their pictures fell off the walls in their homes.

“It's been the worst one we've had so far in this area,” said Dennis Hays. “It rattled our dishes pretty good so that's something we need to be concerned about in our area.”

No damage or injuries were reported.
