Bake sale raises money for humane society

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

An Easter themed bake sale helped raise funds for local animals on Friday.

The Northeast Arkansas Humane Society held a bake sale in Jonesboro to raise money for the shelter. All of the items sold were donated by local businesses and volunteers.

Tables were covered in cupcakes, cakes, cookies and even homemade dog treats.

Margaret Shepherd, executive director of NEAHS, said the money goes directly to helping the animals.

“Fundraisers like this help us maintain the programs we have in place,” Shepherd said. “Like the pet food pantry, our partnership with Petsmart Charities Rescue Wagon, and our spay and neuter program.”

The Easter bake sale has been a tradition for the humane society for more than 20 years. Last year they raised $7,000.

Shepherd said she hopes they can surpass that number this year.
