INDEPENDENCE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - Wreckage from a deadly plane crash was found Friday in Independence County.
Office of Emergency Management Director Glen Willis said the plane had been missing since Thursday morning.
As of right now, investigators believe the pilot, Timothy Welch of Scott, was returning to Carlisle from Salem but decided to turn around in foggy weather and land at the Batesville airport.
That is when the Cessna 152 plane crashed south of Highway 25 near the Independence County line, killing Welch.
A different pilot searching for the missing plane found the wreckage Friday night.
When Willis arrived, there was no sign of fire or explosion at the crash site.
National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration investigators were at the crash site Saturday.
According to Willis, they surveyed the path the plane took through the brush to where it landed.
The teams did not make any conclusions about the crash Saturday.
Willis said there will be a removal crew on site Monday to recover the wrecked plane.
