A Better Region 8: Using innovation to take care of our own

One of the things I like most about living in Region 8 is that we take care of our own.

Last week, The Arkansas Community Foundation did a fundraiser that could truly be the model of how to support non-profit agencies in the future. They organized a 12 hour give-a-thon and challenged all Arkansans to make a donation on a single day in recognition of the vital work our local charitable organizations do.

Whether it's feeding the hungry, caring for the elderly or mentoring our children, the work of Arkansas's nonprofits affects every citizen and helps improve every community. The key here is that all donations were made online. This made helping out easy by meeting people where they are in today's digital society.

Did it work? Well the Region 8 charity with the most donations was "Children's Homes Incorporated" They received over $26,000 during the one day event. 35 other charities also received donations.

Again, we take care of our own here in Region 8. Embracing technology and innovation for the greater good makes this A Better Region 8.
