PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) - Arkansas Methodist Medical Center hosted a Rural Trauma Team Development Course on Wednesday for medical professionals from all over the area.
Experts from the Arkansas Trauma and Education Research Foundation spoke to participants on how to work as a team to rapidly assess and treat significant trauma patients.
Trauma Medical Director at the Arkansas Children's Hospital and member of ATERF Todd Maxson said time is key.
"Time is of the essence in dealing with trauma patients," Maxson said. "As a matter of fact, most patients that are salvageable need to be evaluated and stabilized in the first hour."
Maxson said ATERF conducted a recent study showing hospitals who successfully took this course are now faster and better at rusticating and transferring patients to definitive care.
