More than $64,000 in bids approved to improve Rector airport

RECTOR, AR (KAIT) -

New improvements are coming to the Rector Airport.

The city council approved more than $64,000 in bids for airport and city updates.

The money will go to help improve the runway and fix lights that have been out for some time.

Todd Watson, city superintendent, said crop dusters use the airport more than anyone and it hasn't been updated in many years.

Watson said it needs updates for emergencies, as well.

“Whenever we have accident or something we have to call Air Evac, we can land them out there most of the time at the Rector Airport,” Watson said.

They will also put in a keypad lock so people can access the airport at night.

The money will be used to make improvements on the building, as well.

Watson said they will start working on the airport in the next 3 to 4 weeks. All of the upgrades should take no longer than 90 days.
