Proposal will be considered to bring turf to Hoxie football field

HOXIE, AR (KAIT) -

The Hoxie School Board will consider a proposal to add turf to the school football field at its monthly meeting Monday night.

Hoxie Athletic Director Tom Sears said the move would help upgrade the school's facility.

“We've had problems in recent years with drainage throughout Hoxie in general,” Sears said. “We're making steps to try and alleviate that for our practice and game facilities.”

Sears said when a big storm hits the area, it leaves standing water on the field and that standing water causes a ripple effect when it comes to damage.

“It lays on the side of the fields and covers our practice fields at times,” Sears said. “It will lay on our track and it deteriorates the track.”

Sears said right now they're focusing on getting turf added to the football fields and if they are able to raise funds to get turf added to other fields, they will look into that possibility.

A consultant is expected to present the proposal to the school board Monday night.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the board room.
