JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Arkansas got its first taste of what the 2015 turkey season may be like during the youth hunt last weekend.
During the youth hunt, children ages 6 to 15 could go out and bag a bird before the woods become very crowded.
The youth had a lot of success. They killed 1,279 turkey since April 11.
With the full turkey season taking off this weekend, DNW Outdoors Owner Dennis Noell said a lot of hunters are preparing.
"We've had a lot of people the last few weeks," Noell said. "You know this weekend's opening adult turkey season, last weekend was youth turkey season, we had a lot of people coming in doing that."
Noell said hunters are mainly coming in to buy clothes, turkey calls and ammo.
He expects that outdoor stores in the area will see a big growth in customers as we get closer to the weekend.
