Frito-Lay announces $45.7 million expansion to Jonesboro facility

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A company announced a nearly $50 million expansion planned for its location in Jonesboro Monday night.

Frito-Lay officials announced that they would expand an existing manufacturing facility with a $45.7 million addition, according to Talk Business and Politics.

That announcement was made at the Craighead County Quorum Court meeting.

The expansion will add about 30 new jobs and 80,000 square feet to the company's facility on Highway 18.

Frito-Lay's Jonesboro plant currently employs 453 workers. They make Dorito's, Lay's, Ruffles and other brands of chips.

Spokesperson for Frito-Lay North America, Cynthia Baker, told Talk Business and Politics the expansion will include investments in “high technology distribution equipment.”

She said it should be up and running by 2018.

“The facility has been operating for 17 years and has more than 450 full-time employees,” Baker said. “The new equipment increases the stability of the site and enhances the site's operations with faster delivery of products to our customers.”
