PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) - A room in the Greene County Courthouse is now more kid-friendly.
CASA of the 2nd Judicial District, serving Clay and Greene County, received a grant to make a witness room for kids.
The $1,800 grant from the Arkansas Court Improvement Plan helped add to the otherwise regular witness room.
There are now books and games for kids to play with, along with chalk boards and chairs.
Amanda Frankenberger, Advocate Coordinator for CASA in Clay and Greene County, said the room is needed to help make kids feel comfortable when they must come to court.
"Court days are long and they are drawn out, and they are hard especially on these kids," Frankenberger said. "So as you can see, we created a room that will allow them to come and play and maybe take some of the stress off of a stressful situation."
Frankenberger said the room will allow the kids to have a special place to go instead of sitting out in the larger lobby before, during, and after court.
She said it's especially important when the child may have to testify that day.
CASA is excited to welcome the kids to the special witness room on the next court date for the Department of Human Services Juvenile Court, which is on April 30.
