Hillary Clinton Downplays Fainting Spell

JANUARY 31, 2005 - Posted at 3:28 p.m. CST

BUFFALO, NY - It wasn't as dramatic as it sounds.

That's what New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton had to say about her fainting spell earlier today in Buffalo.

The former first lady had been feeling ill before she showed up at a private Buffalo club to give a lunchtime talk on Social Security.  A few minutes into her speech, she fainted.

Her office in Washington says Clinton received medical attention at the scene.

Afterward, she walked out of the club on her own and headed to her scheduled speech at Canisius College.  After talking about health care for about a half-hour, she took questions from the audience.

Clinton blamed the illness on a 24-hour bug and said, "What better place to come and talk about healing the sick."
