POPLAR BLUFF, MO - The Missouri Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation into allegations of mismanagement of funds on the Highway 67 Coalition, a northeast Arkansas and southeast Missouri-based group pushing for the future expansion of U.S. 67 between Pocahontas and Poplar Bluff northward.

"At this time the Highway Patrol is confirming that we are conducting an investigation concerning possible stealing and forgery from the Highway 67 NOW fund.  The complaint was originally received from a private citizen and is being investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control," said Highway Patrol public information officer Sergeant Larry Plunkett, Jr. in a recently-issued statement.

"The investigation is still ongoing at this point, and we hope to have it concluded within the next two weeks, at which time it will be forwarded to the Butler County Prosecutors office.  The investigation was initiated on January 13, 2005.  At this point, the names of those involved are not being released," Plunkett added.
