– The University of Arkansas baseball team (22-16) finished off a midweek sweep of Stephen F. Austin (12-25) Wednesday afternoon, cruising to a 15-3 victory at Baum Stadium.
Andrew Benintendi continued to impress for the Razorbacks, adding two more hits, including his nation-leading 14th home run of the year with a two-run blast as part of a five-run sixth inning. The sophomore reached base four times, recorded three stolen bases and scored four times in the victory.
The Razorbacks broke the game wide open in the fourth frame with five consecutive hits to plate four runs and take a 5-0 lead. Tyler Spoon and Brett McAfee provided RBI hits in the frame as the Razorbacks batted around in the inning.
Stephen F. Austin plated a single run in the sixth inning, but Arkansas came right back in its half of the inning and pushed across five more runs as Clark Eagan drilled a two-run triple to centerfield and Benintendi belted his nation-leading 14th homer of the year to right field to make it 11-1.
Both teams traded runs in the eighth inning as the Lumberjacks scored a pair and Arkansas came back with three of its own, capped by RBI base knocks from Bobby Wernes and McAfee to give Arkansas a 15-3 victory.
McAfee tallied a career-high four hits on the day and drove in three runs, while Wernes recorded a career-high four RBI's and scored two runs.
Jacob Stone (3-2) picked up the win in his second consecutive midweek start, lasting 5.0 innings and giving up just three hits, while striking out three.
