BONO, AR (KAIT) - Bono Lake has been a project in Craighead County for quite some time now, but things are starting to look up for the lake.
In April of 2014 the lake was only up a half a foot on the water tower located by the dam in the lake, which is where the water flows over into the spillway.
On Thursday, the lake was just 2 feet shy of reaching the full mark.
Craighead County Judge Ed Hill said he thinks the lake could be full within the next week, as long as we get the rain expected in the forecast.
"Hopefully by next week we may see it full," Hill said. "You know, it's just a year ago this week we closed the gates, so really with the dry fall and the drier winter we've had we're pretty satisfied with what we're seeing."
Several steps have already been taken at the lake, including adding catfish and bluegill through the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, and according to AGFC, they plan on adding large-mouth bass later this spring.
Judge Hill said there are still many more projects to complete before the lake is finished, like planting trees and paving the road to the lake, but when the lake is complete he expects the murky water will clear and the area will make a nice park for people in the area.
