JONESBORO, AR (ASU) – Donte Thomas, a 6-foot-3 point guard, signed a national letter of intent to attend Arkansas State University, Red Wolves head coach John Brady announced Thursday.
“We are excited about the addition of Donte on our team,” Brady said. “We thought one of the needs for our team was a point guard with some size and physicalness and he brings that. From what I have seen, he will be the best passer on our team. At 6-foot-3, he gives us physical play defensively and has tremendous leadership qualities that make us excited to see what he will bring to our team next year.
Thomas most recently played at San Jacinto College helping the team to a 28-6 record and an appearance in the JUCO National Tournament. Thomas averaged 12.3 points, 5.0 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game and was selected second team all-conference. Shooting 48.9 percent from the field and 31.7 percent from beyond the arc, Thomas registered double-figures in 25 games and dished out five or more assists in 21 of 33 games played.
Prior to his sophomore season at San Jacinto College, Thomas played for Hagerstown Community College. The Washington, D.C., native averaged 13.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 9.0 assists in 28 games at Hagerstown. Thomas led the team to a 29-5 record and an appearance in the JUCO National Tournament by shooting 41.9 percent from the field and 32.8 percent from long range.
