Newport man arrested for armed robbery in Searcy

SEARCY, AR (KAIT) -

A Newport man was arrested for a Friday afternoon robbery in Searcy.

According to Sergeant Steve Hernandez, the public information officer for Searcy police, the Valero station at 1199 North Maple was robbed around 1:30 p.m.

The suspect reportedly had a small handgun and demanded cash.

After getting the money, the suspect ran toward an apartment complex on Holmes Road.

Police stopped a vehicle in the area and took two suspects into custody for questioning.

They arrested and charged Curtis Daniel Howard, 18, of Newport with aggravated robbery and theft of property.

He was taken to the White County Detention Center and given a $75,000 bond.

Police did not say if Howard is connected to another armed robbery in Searcy earlier Friday.
