March for Babies has record breaking year

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Nearly 400 people walked Saturday to bring awareness to premature births.

The local March of Dimes organization sponsored its annual March for Babies walk Saturday at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro.

Rachel Geurin, Division Director for the March of Dimes, said this was a record breaking year.

The walk helps raise money for research and programs to promote healthy babies and stop premature births. Geurin says they look forward to it every year.

“We get to see our families that have been affected by this,” Geurin said. “They get to come out and walk in honor of their preemie. They raise money all year, and we just get to celebrate their lives.”

Geurin said luckily the rain stayed away, and they were able to enjoy the Kid's Zone, music, and fun.

Geurin said there is a large problem with pre-term births in Arkansas and hopes walks like this will help educate families along with raising funds for lifesaving research.
