Teen girls learn about possible future career paths

PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) -

There is a world of opportunities after high school, and professional women in Region 8 want girls to know that.

The Paragould Business and Professional Women's organization sponsored the program Choices Saturday in Paragould at First National Bank.

It's a program for 8th to 12th grade girls, where they heard from different professional women.

Nellie Murphy, BPW member, said the girls learn about different careers every year.

“It may be like in 8th grade they might decide they want to do something, but if they come back to this maybe in 11th or 12th grade they may have another decision, and think there's another career I might like,” Murphy said.

9 women presented to the girls, including an OBGYN, a realtor, an Army National Guard Sergeant, and a lawyer.

Each speaker discussed what her job is and the education it takes to have the career.

Paragould's Business and Professional Women's organization hopes this program inspires young women to set high goals for their futures.
