SOUTHEAST MISSOURI (KAIT) - Two separate crashes at roughly the same time on Sunday in southeast Missouri left one person dead and 3 seriously injured.
The first crash happened at 6 p.m. on I-55 southbound, 3 miles south of Portageville.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Jessica R. White, 28, of St. Louis died as a result of the crash.
White was the passenger of a Chevrolet HHR driven by Jessica Richmond of Sikeston.
Troopers state in the crash report the Chevy was headed south when it went off the road and struck the back of a semi truck that was parked. The car then slid across the road and struck a cable barrier.
White was pronounced dead at the scene about an hour later, according to MSHP. Richmond was airlifted to a Cape Girardeau hospital in serious condition.
Both women were not wearing seat belts MSHP stated.
A second, separate crash happened in Carter County about 12 minutes later.
There were no fatalities, but 2 people riding a motorcycle were seriously injured.
The investigating trooper stated Joseph and Kristi Riley, both of Poplar Bluff, were on a Harley Davidson motorcycle headed east at the intersection of Missouri Route K and B when the crash occurred.
The crash report states a GMC Acadia on Route K attempted to cross Route B and struck the motorcycle.
Five people were in the GMC, including a 7 year old, but none of them sustained injuries, the crash report stated.
Both Joseph and Kristi Riley were airlifted to a Cape Girardeau hospital.
MSHP listed that all of those involved in this crash were using some kind of safety device.
