(RNN) – Blue Bell has issued a voluntary recall of all its products currently on the market due to the possible threat of listeria contamination, the company announced Monday.
That includes ice cream, frozen yogurt, sherbet and frozen snacks.
"We're committed to doing the 100 percent right thing, and the best way to do that is to take all of our products off the market until we can be confident that they are all safe," said Paul Kruse, Blue Bell CEO and president, in a news release.
The products were distributed at stores in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Wyoming and outside the United States.
Customers should return the item at the place of purchase for a refund.
Listeriosis is a serious infection usually caused by eating food contaminated with the bacterium listeria monocytogenes. It mainly affects the elderly, pregnant women, newborns and adults with weakened immune systems, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
However, healthy people can also be impacted.
Symptoms include headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, fever and muscle aches.
