JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The Arkansas State University Spirit Squads are making moves to enhance the fan experience along with their notoriety.
Since Arkansas State Spirit Squad Coordinator and Head Coach Paige Pauley arrived in August of 2013, she immediately went to work on changing the culture of the squads. "The first thing I wanted to focus on was the gameday performances," said Pauley, "How we interact with the crowd, matching from bows to toes."
One of the biggest changes that has been returned to Arkansas State, the spirit squads are once again competing in national competitions. "The Dance team has never competed and it has been decades since the cheerleaders have competed," Pauley told Region 8 Sports. She said that being in a national competition increases the exposure of the school to the nation, "The cheer nationals are on ESPN, so that's really big for us," she said.
Arkansas State recently held cheer and dance try-outs, a three-day process designed to find the perfect fits for the the team.
