Osteopathic medical school at A-State approved for accreditation

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - An osteopathic medical school will be coming to Arkansas State University from the New York Institute of Technology.

In February of last year, NYIT approved a resolution for the development of the school and then began seeking an accreditation.

The Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation approved the location on Saturday.

According to a news release, the move will allow for 115 new medical students each year in Arkansas.

A-State first began looking into the osteopathic medical school in 2013.

Barbara Ross-Lee from NYIT will be the dean of the college.

The news release said she has been a medical school dean twice and is now a distinguished medical educator and public policy leader.
