Region 8 students learn how to save, manage money

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A group of Region 8 fourth graders got a lesson in saving from the experts Tuesday.

Representatives with Bancorp South stopped by the Math and Science Magnet School in Jonesboro to talk about being responsible with your money.

Dominick Hollingsworth has two children that attend the Math and Science school.

She said she's thrilled with what are kids learned from today's visitors.

“It's good,” Hollingsworth said. “I think it helps them learn about it and get a knowledge already because that's how I learned about writing checks and stuff, was in school. I had actual bankers come in and they showed us and that's how I learned how to do it.”

The banking representatives spoke to around 40 children.

The visit was made possible by a national program, called Teach Children to Save.

It is sponsored by the American Bankers Association Community Engagement Foundation.

Thanksgiving is a time to be with loved ones and enjoy good food, but since that is not an option for everyone, members of the Jonesboro community came together to make sure as many people as possible were fed.
