BAY, AR (KAIT) -

City officials in Bay say charges against a man who shot and killed a K-9 officer have been dropped.

Mayor Darrell Kirby said Wednesday that he and Police Chief Paul Keith came to a joint decision to drop the charges.

K-9 officer Vox dug a hole under a fence and escaped on April 9, according to Keith.

A man had been charged with discharging a firearm inside the city limits of Bay which resulted in the death of the dog.

It was determined that the dog had a rabbit in its mouth and was attempting to kill it on the man's property, according to the chief.

A memorial service for the K-9 officer was held 9 days later in Bay.
