MOUNTAIN HOME, AR (KAIT) - A minor traffic violation led to a man's arrest on major drug charges.
The traffic stop occurred Tuesday night around 9:30, according to Chief Carry Manuel of the Mountain Home Police Department.
After learning the driver and the passenger, 33-year-old John Harvey of Gassville, were both on parole, Manuel said the officer asked and received consent to search the car.
During the search, the officer reportedly found suspected methamphetamine on the passenger's side of the vehicle.
When an assisting officer tried to arrest Harvey, Manuel said Harvey tried to run away.
Harvey, after leading officers on a short foot chase, then struggled with police and refused to submit when they tried to take him into custody, Manuel said.
Officers ultimately restrained Harvey and placed him into handcuffs before taking him to the Baxter County Detention Center.
Harvey is charged with felony possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), resisting arrest, and fleeing. He's being held in lieu of $2,500 bond. He is also being held for a parole violation.
In an unrelated case, a Briarcliff woman is being held in lieu of $7,500 bond after Manuel said she stole a car.
The vehicle was reported stolen from a parking lot on Tuesday.
At 11 a.m. that day a Baxter County sheriff's deputy located the car and conducted a traffic stop.
Henschel, who was driving the vehicle, was arrested and taken to the sheriff's office, interviewed and later charged with felony theft.
She is also being held for a parole violation.
