When it comes to our overall health status, Arkansas ranks 49 out of 50 states. That's a tough statistic. The question is: What are we going to do about it?
Arkansas State University has worked hard at doing something. They're taking steps to bring more doctors to Region 8. The New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine is partnering with A-State to bring a medical school to the ASU campus right here in Jonesboro.
This would be the second medical school in the state of Arkansas, and would be NYIT's second campus in the United States. They plan to house the site inside ASU's Wilson Hall. Student recruitment has yet to begin, but the anticipated class size is 115 students, and they hope to open by August, 2016.
We applaud the hard work and dedication of NYIT and Arkansas State University. This is big news. This means even more growth at ASU, It could mean more doctors for Arkansas, and it certainly makes this A Better Region 8.
