DUNKLIN COUNTY, MO (KAIT) - A 4-year-old boy is reported to be in stable condition after being shot Saturday.
According to Dunklin County Sheriff Bob Holder, the boy was shot in the leg around 12:50 p.m. at a home on Highway C in south Dunklin County.
Sheriff Holder said the sheriff's department is still investigating what led up to the shooting, but he told Region 8 News on Monday the child was recommended to be put into state custody.
As of Monday, the four year old is still recovering in the hospital.
After he was shot Saturday, the child was taken to Twin Rivers Regional Hospital by a private vehicle. He was immediately treated by medical staff, then taken by helicopter to a Memphis hospital.
Sheriff Holder said since this is a juvenile case, information is coming in slowly.
