Police arrest man for assaulting officer, possessing meth

STEELE, MO (KAIT) - Steele police arrested a man this weekend on drug charges and assaulting an officer.

Chief Billy Joe Stanfield said on Sunday officers responded to a domestic disturbance on North First Street.

An officer made contact with Rickey Tomlin, 43, at the home. Stanfield said while investigating the officer found Tomlin to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine.

Tomlin, according to the chief, became aggressive during his arrest and spit in the officer's face and "swung his fist" at the officer's head, trying to hit him. Tomlin was eventually handcuffed and taken to the Pemiscot County Jail.

Steele police filed a report and Tomlin was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and assault on a law enforcement officer.

Bond for Tomlin was set a $100,000.
