Students volunteer to beautify their community

BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) -

A Region 8 city is proud to have students that are passionate about volunteering.

The city of Blytheville helped a group of Blytheville FFA students volunteer Saturday.

Blytheville Mayor James Sanders said the group reached out to the mayor's office along with the police department asking how they could help the community.

"It just makes it good to see our youth that are also involving themselves in lifting Blytheville and working along with other organizations in Blytheville," Sanders said. "You know, they are taking their time out of their Saturdays just volunteering like everyone else, and I'm proud."

Six students helped paint fire hydrants around the Walnut Street and Main Street area.

The city provided the supplies.

Sanders said the students have already asked when they can volunteer again.

He hopes more students will volunteer and help make Blytheville a better place to live.
