Brookland shuts out Jonesboro in softball

BROOKLAND, AR (KAIT) - A normally potent Jonesboro offense was silent on Monday as Brookland pitching and defense was good enough to hold off the Hurricane for a shutout win.

Brookland's Kyla Kelley and Jonesboro's Marcie Bewley went head to head in a pitchers dual early holding each other's team scoreless through the first couple of frames.

Sophie Rottinghaus broke the tie for Brookland with a 3 run double to right field that slipped by the right fielder to put the Bearcats up 3-0.

That would prove to be all Brookland would need as they tacked on two more in the inning to take a 5-0 lead and solid pitching took them the rest of the way for a 5-0 shutout of the Hurricane.

Jonesboro now continues its conference battles trying to get into the state tournament while Brookland prepares for postseason play.
