Marmaduke wins 3-2A Softball Title

MONETTE, AR (KAIT) - The top two softball teams in the 3-2A Conference did battle in Monette for the league title on Monday afternoon at Buffalo Island Central.

The hosts BIC took on Marmaduke in the title game that featured two teams that had rolled through the the tournament up to this game.

As expected the two teams traded punches throughout the battle and were tied going into the top of the final frame. It appeared that BIC might take the lead when Heather Sipes hit a fly ball to left field with a runner on third and one out. Jordan Mays caught the fly ball and gunned the tagging runner down at home plate to keep the game tied at 5 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Greyhounds would capitalize on Mays' great play in their half of the seventh. With two outs and runners on second and third, Bailey Bridges dropped a single into the outfield, scoring Sammi Henry for the walk-off win and the conference championship.

Marmaduke earns the one seed in the regional tournament with the 6-5 win but Buffalo Island will still be a force to reckon with when it comes to the rest of post season play.
