STUTTGART, AR - A Poinsett County farmer has been named Rice Farmer of the Year.

The award was presented recently to Scott Matthews of Weiner, at the National Conservation Tillage Cotton and Rice Conference.

Matthews uses no-till methods on his 1,100-acre farm.  He says it saves time, labor, equipment repairs, fuel and water.

University of Arkansas scientist Merle Anders was also honored at the conference as the nation's Rice Researcher of the Year.
